“It's kind of like it chose me,” Werth said. “I didn't necessarily choose it, which sounds super romantic. But I'd say I've fallen in love with the game and I've fallen out of love with the game. But here I am and I love it more than I ever have.
“So, yeah, I'm a lifer.”
Werth still touts the most kills in Illinois High School Association history with 2,022 and the second-most in a season with 699. Her senior year she was named the 2008-09 Illinois Gatorade Player of the Year.
The prolific outside hitter also became a volleyball icon in Lincoln, Nebraska, with her sports goggles and garnered 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs with the Cornhuskers. She started out as the 2009 American Volleyball Coaches Association National Freshman of the Year and twice earned second-team All-American honors.
